Staffing for Canada Week

Last week was Staffing for Canada Week.  The annual event is celebrated by members of the Association of Canadian Search, Employment and Staffing Services to acknowledge the more than 400,000 people who are employed in the staffing profession in Canada. ACSESS members represent 85 percent of the staffing volume in Canada.

Our team celebrated with a take out picnic lunch in a park near our Yaletown neighbourhood, then a nice walk along the seawall back to the office. We all enjoyed this fun way to celebrate with our great team of recruiters and staff.

Do Job Perks Make Employees Happier?

More and more workplaces are offering incentives to attract and retain top talent. Ping pong table, anyone? When entertaining a job offer, salary is the first thing that comes to mind, but definitely don’t overlook benefits beyond the norm. Flexible hours, staff outings, subsidized health club memberships are just a few perks that small companies can offer their employees. Such incentives can make employees happier and more productive.  The infographic below illustrates what several large corporations offer their employees. Perhaps your workplace can find some inspiration from this list.

Happy 20th Birthday McNeill Nakamoto!

Today, we celebrate 20 years of doing what we love, and doing what we do best…

It was on a Monday in September 1996 when McNeill Nakamoto Recruitment Group was founded by Sarah McNeill and Cheryl Nakamoto.

“Sarah and I wanted to create a different kind of recruitment company that personalized the recruitment process for both our clients and candidates,” says Cheryl Nakamoto, “and we plan to continue striving to be the most customer focused staffing and recruitment company.”Happy Birthday McNak

Bring Your Passion To Work

We have all heard the saying “If you love what you do you will never work another day in your life.”  That may be true, but how many people can do what they love every day and make a living at it?  Probably very few.  Even though I would like to pursue my passion full time I cannot get upset that it is not possible at this point.

There is a way that you can make your everyday job one that you enjoy, possibly even love and can cultivate the passion for it at the same time.  It that possible?  It is, by finding the simple daily ways to ignite your passion while doing what you need to do to earn your paycheck.

Let me give you an example of what I am talking about.  In the town where I live, there is a physician who loves to act and sing.  He is part of the city theatrical players, and opera is his passion. Throughout the day, during his visits with patients he will break out in a song in the treatment room or as he is walking down the hallway.  He is known as the “singing doctor.”

It seems he has successfully combined his “passions.”  He is a physician, participates in community theatre, and sings.  Not need to choose on passion over the other.

Is there a way that you can bring more of your passion into your day job to make you happier?  Not only would you be happier, but it would bring new life into your job and you would probably be a more successful employee.

Happy Birthday to us!

McNak BirthdayMcNeill Nakamoto turned 19 years old this week. We love to celebrate successes. And if you visit our behind the scenes photos on Facebook, you will know that we love to celebrate with food! Breakfast treats and afternoon cake one day, a pot luck lunch another day. And next week we will continue the celebrations with a night out as a team.

We are celebrating 19 years of doing what we love, and doing what we do best….

Since founding McNak  in 1996, our company has stayed true to its roots and continues to colour outside the lines. We are still crazy about positive experiences for our candidates and clients after all these years. Team McNak enjoys every day conjuring up new ways to make ourselves and others smile.

Our commitment to fun lives on. Its just the McNak way.

Happy Birthday McNak!

Flash Mob at the company Christmas party

MAC Marketing Solutions is one of those companies that knows how to work hard, and knows how to play hard. Their annual Christmas party includes their hardworking fun staff as well as their loyal clients.  The annual MAC party has garnered a reputation for being the place to be. This year, they elevated the experience, and surprised their clients with a Flash Mob. The 70’s themed party allowed everybody to let loose and have some fun. The fun part was watching clients spontaneously join in. What a great company culture to have everyone in the company bust out in a synchronized dance during their party!
